HONTIVEROS SAYS 2028 PRESIDENTIAL BID WILL DEPEND ON SURVEY RESULTS

Senator Risa Hontiveros on Friday stated that public opinion polls will heavily influence her decision on whether to launch a presidential bid for the 2028 national elections.

Speaking at a student forum in Cebu City, Hontiveros explained that voter support captured in surveys is a vital indicator of her potential success as a candidate.

“Siyempre ‘yung mga indicators, for example, ‘yung survey results of that strength, of that wide support mula sa ating mga kababayan na botante,” Hontiveros said.

The lawmaker openly shared that she has begun laying the groundwork for a possible run for the presidency.

“I am seriously considering it, preparing for that possibility,” Hontiveros said.

“I think it is really necessary na magkaroon kami from our ranks ng strongest, best, most attractive and hopeful offer sa ating mga kababayan at mga kapwa botante,” she added.

Hontiveros also highlighted the critical need for opposition and progressive factions to unite behind a single candidate before the upcoming election cycle, arguing that solidarity is crucial for running a competitive campaign.

“I’m looking forward to that moment na end of this year or at the very, very latest sana, first quarter next year, magkaisa kami sa aming ranks around whoever we can merge as the strongest contender,” she explained.

“So magkaisa kami. There can be only one para may fighting chance. Laban,” Hontiveros stressed.

The senator’s statements follow the launch of the “Risa Na! Movement” earlier this month, an initiative spearheaded by the Akbayan and Magdalo party-list organizations aimed at drafting her into the presidential race.

Despite the mounting push from allied coalitions, Hontiveros has stopped short of making an official declaration for the 2028 elections.
