The House of Representatives has begun the logistical process of transmitting the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte to the Senate, marking a historic move following a decisive plenary vote.
House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil confirmed that the legislative body is currently managing the documentation required to initiate the trial in the upper chamber.
“As to the status of the transmittal of the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte, the House of Representatives Secretariat is reproducing copies for submission to the Senate.”
The scale of the filing is reportedly massive, consisting of the formal charges alongside a mountain of supporting evidence gathered during the committee hearings.
Garafil emphasized that the Secretariat is taking rigorous steps to maintain the integrity of the records during the transition.
“The Articles of Impeachment and their attachments, which number in the thousands of pages, are currently being reproduced, collated, and checked to ensure that all copies are appropriately organized to ensure that each copy is a faithful reproduction of what was approved by the House of Representatives.”
The Vice President was impeached for the second time after the House delivered a crushing 257-25 vote, with nine members abstaining.
With the political future of the country’s second-highest official now shifting toward a Senate trial, House officials stressed that the technical validity of the documents is a top priority.
“The accuracy of our submission is our paramount concern.”
