INVESTORS BACK ABS-CBN TURNAROUND WITH ₱6-B CAPITAL INFUSION

Market analysts view the entry of I&C Holdings Corporation—an entity linked to Fortman Cline Capital Markets—as a vote of confidence in ABS-CBN Corporation’s recovery trajectory, following a massive ₱6-billion equity infusion.

The strategic investment involves issuing 1.64 billion new common shares, expanding the media network’s outstanding capital base from 899.85 million to 2.54 billion shares. I&C Holdings leads the round with a ₱3.5-billion commitment for a 37.7 percent stake (958.9 million shares), making it the network’s second-largest shareholder behind the Lopez family.

“With a ₱3.5-billion commitment, investors are clearly betting that ABS-CBN’s content assets, brand strength, and digital transformation can create long-term value,” said Jonathan Ravelas, Senior Adviser of Reyes Tacandong & Co.

“Beyond capital, Fortman Cline brings deep investment banking and corporate finance expertise. That combination of funding and strategic guidance could help accelerate ABS-CBN’s recovery and growth plans,” Ravelas added. “The key takeaway is that smart money is backing a recovery story. The challenge now is execution.”

Securities and Exchange Commission records reveal that I&C Holdings was incorporated on February 24 with an initial authorized capital stock of ₱2.5 billion. While originally formed by Daniel Ibasco, Gary Emerson P. Cheng, and Clarisse Darlene Rose Tan, an updated May 12, 2026 General Information Sheet shows Fortress Capital Philippine Holdings Corporation holding the largest share at ₱450 million, with Ibasco and Cheng holding 14 percent each.

Grace Crisostomo-Cerdenia, Head of Research at 2TradeAsia.com, echoed the sentiment that the market could see this development as a promising turnaround play.

The remaining ₱2.5 billion of the capital boost comes from existing owners: ₱2.2 billion from three Lopez family branches—Crème Investment Corporation (led by Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III), Mantes Corporation (descendants of Manuel “Manolo” Lopez), and Presta Holdings Company (Presentacion Lopez-Psinakis lineage)—alongside ₱300 million from Federico “Piki” Lopez-led Lopez Inc.
