LAKAS-CMD PARTY SEEN WEAKENING AS MEMBERS SHIFT TO OTHER POLITICAL GROUPS

Three years into the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the political influence of the Lakas–Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) in the House of Representatives appears to be waning, with several members reportedly transferring to other major parties.

The party, currently led by former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez—who has been implicated in controversies surrounding flood control projects—is said to be losing members to the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), National Unity Party (NUP), and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).

Reports indicate that former Lakas-CMD members were among the first to join PFP, the party of President Marcos. From an initial 17 members after the 2025 elections, PFP’s House membership has since grown to 40.

Meanwhile, remaining Lakas-CMD members are said to have pending applications to join NUP, led by Antipolo 1st District Representative Ronaldo Puno. However, a larger number of lawmakers are reportedly eyeing NPC, under the leadership of Senate President Vicente Sotto III.

At present, none of the mentioned parties have issued official confirmation regarding the ongoing political realignments.
