MANILA, Philippines — Local government units (LGUs) across the country have approved 12,241 permits and clearances for telecommunications infrastructure projects to accelerate connectivity and improve internet speed nationwide, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reported.
The approvals span 707 cities and municipalities, speeding up the installation of cell towers and essential internet facilities.
According to the DILG, local authorities are adopting simplified processing procedures to support President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s initiative for nationwide digital transformation.
This expansion extends to remote regions under Executive Order No. 32, which streamlines the permitting framework for internet infrastructure. The directive enforces a Zero Backlog Policy, requiring LGUs to submit annual reports of pending applications to the Anti-Red Tape Authority.
Currently, 94 LGUs are reviewing 2,046 pending telecom applications, which must be resolved within statutory deadlines. The DILG stressed that efficient permitting reflects good governance and prevents administrative delays from slowing down development projects.
The agency reminded local officials that under Republic Act No. 11032, or the Ease of Doing Business Law, those responsible for unnecessary delays or red tape face statutory penalties.
LGUs were also urged to maintain streamlined practices to bring government services and digital access to underserved communities.
