MANILA UNVEILS NEW EARLY WARNING SYSTEMS AHEAD OF RAINY SEASON

The Manila City Government on Wednesday introduced a new set of early warning and weather-monitoring technologies aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness and improving public safety as the rainy season approaches.

The presentation was led by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso together with officials from the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MCDRRMD) at the Bulwagang Villegas inside Manila City Hall.

During the event, city officials showcased several tools and monitoring systems designed to enhance weather surveillance, hazard assessment, and emergency response operations, particularly in areas prone to flooding and other weather-related threats.

The initiative is part of the local government’s ongoing efforts to bolster disaster resilience and ensure that residents receive timely alerts and critical information during severe weather conditions.

Authorities said the newly presented equipment will help improve monitoring and response capabilities as Manila prepares for potential storms, heavy rains, flooding, and other hazards associated with the wet season. The city’s preparations also take into account climate-related weather phenomena, including the possible effects of El Niño.

Domagoso emphasized the importance of readiness and preventive measures in minimizing the impact of natural disasters, stressing that disaster preparedness remains a major focus of his administration.

According to the mayor, enhanced early warning systems will allow emergency responders to act more quickly while giving residents sufficient time to prepare and take necessary safety measures before emergencies escalate.

The MCDRRMD likewise reiterated its commitment to round-the-clock weather monitoring and close coordination with national government agencies to ensure a swift and coordinated response to adverse weather events.

The unveiling comes as local government units across the country continue strengthening their disaster preparedness programs in anticipation of the rainy season and the possibility of extreme weather conditions in the coming months.
