MIXED TRENDS: BIG-TIME ROLLBACK FOR DIESEL AND KEROSENE; GASOLINE, LPG PRICES UP

Filipino motorists and households will face a split in energy costs this week as the Department of Energy (DOE) announced substantial price cuts for diesel and kerosene alongside slight increases for gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Effective 6 a.m. Tuesday, diesel prices will see a massive reduction of ₱9.57 per liter, while kerosene consumers will benefit from an even steeper drop of ₱13.30 per liter. Conversely, gasoline prices will buck the downward trend with an increase of ₱0.47 per liter across all variants.

Households will also feel a slight pinch as LPG prices rise by ₱1.22 per kilogram, adding roughly ₱13.42 to the cost of a standard 11-kilogram cylinder.

The DOE attributed the diverging price movements to the ongoing volatility in the global oil market.

“The adjustments reflect recent movements in global oil prices and continued volatility in the international market.”

Major oil firms, including Petron, Seaoil, and Shell, confirmed they would implement the changes simultaneously. Industry experts noted that while Middle East tensions continue to influence global trends, local supply dynamics have allowed for the significant “big-time” rollbacks in industrial and heating fuels this week.
