Malacañang expressed confidence that Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson will maintain the integrity of the ongoing Senate investigation into Taguig City’s infrastructure projects, even amidst calls for a truce with Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano.
During a Palace briefing on Tuesday, August 4, Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that Lacson’s character guarantees the proposed reconciliation will not impede the probe.
While acknowledging the potential benefit of mending ties to improve working relations—particularly with a demanding Senate schedule that includes the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte—Castro emphasized that the inquiry into flagged projects will proceed if evidence warrants it.
”Kung sila po ay magkakasundo at mawawala na iyong mga personal nilang sentimyento sa bawat isa mas, magiging maganda ang kanilang relasyon sa pagtatrabaho,” Castro said.
”Pero naniniwala tayo na sa pagkatao po ni Senator Lacson hindi po siya makikipag-compromise para lang mawala ang kanyang pag-iimbestiga,” she added.
”Kung may mga ebidensiya alam po din natin na ito ay kaniyang ipagpapatuloy.”
The statement comes after Senator Erwin Tulfo revealed that several lawmakers are encouraging a truce between the two senators.
Expressing hope for unity, Castro noted that differing opinions should not ruin professional relationships.
”Mas maganda naman po talaga na ang bawat tao, hindi lang po public servants, lahat po sana ay nagkakasundo. May mga pagkakataon na magkakaiba nga ang opinyon pero hindi kinakailangan talaga na umabot sa hindi magandang relasyon,” Castro said.
