Team Hong Kong has officially claimed the Grand Championship at the World Cosplay Summit (WCS) 2026 World Cosplay Championship, held on Sunday, August 2, in Nagoya.
Cosplayers Ronnie Kui and Lulu Kui captured the top spot with an energetic, highly technical stage performance inspired by the hit video game franchise Monster Hunter. In addition to taking home the main title, the duo also earned the prestigious WCS Alumni Award, which recognizes the best showcase delivered by returning veteran competitors.
Global Standings and Team Philippines Spotlight
The 2026 championship featured representatives from 41 countries and regions, marking one of the most competitive lineups in the event’s history. Team Canada secured second place overall with their performance based on Tokyo Aliens, while Team Brazil took third place with a presentation inspired by Tales of Arise.
Representing the Philippines on the global stage was Team Sinag Agila, composed of veteran cosplayers Jeoffry “OPet QU” Quiban and Zhel “Zhel Pyon” Quiral. The duo delivered a theatrical performance based on Studio Ghibli’s animated classic Howl’s Moving Castle. Although they did not land a spot in the top three, their detailed prop craftsmanship, costume accuracy, and stage presence earned enthusiastic praise and strong support from both international judges and the Philippine cosplay community.
Permanent Schedule Shift for WCS 2027
Alongside the tournament results, event organizers announced a major structural change for future iterations of the summit. Starting next year, the World Cosplay Summit will permanently transition from its traditional mid-summer August schedule to the autumn season.
The move comes in response to rising summer temperatures in Nagoya, with organizers prioritizing the health, safety, and comfort of costumed participants and attendees. Under the new schedule, WCS 2027 is officially set to take place from November 12 to 14, 2027, closing out the summer era and ushering in a new chapter for the global gathering.
