MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has called on the public to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) with caution and accountability, stressing that emerging technologies should enhance, rather than replace, human judgment and decision-making.
The message was delivered on his behalf by Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos during the formal launch of eGov AI, a new feature integrated into the government’s eGovPH Super App, held at the Manila Hotel on Monday, September 21.
“To the Filipino people, use eGov AI wisely, responsibly, and ethically,” Marcos said.
“Always remember that technology should sharpen our judgment, not replace it,” he added.
Marcos emphasized that as AI becomes more embedded in sectors such as education, employment, and business, the government must ensure its implementation remains rooted in public service, security, and accountability.
He highlighted the need to bridge the digital divide, making AI tools accessible to underserved communities that lack connectivity, resources, or technical training.
Citing a 2024 study, the President noted that AI adoption in the Philippines stood at just 14.9%, primarily concentrated among larger urban technology firms due to ongoing structural and connectivity challenges across the country.
“These realities tell us where our work must continue,” Marcos noted, reiterating the necessity of expanding digital access and skills development.
The newly introduced eGov AI platform aims to streamline public transactions through integrated features, including an Electronic Know-Your-Client (eKYC) system equipped with advanced liveness checks to prevent fraud, alongside real-time translation capabilities designed to dismantle language barriers.
“Every technology we introduce must ultimately serve public interest,” Marcos affirmed, urging both public agencies and private sector partners to maintain an inclusive approach to digital transformation.
“Let us ensure that as technology moves forward, no Filipino is left behind in the opportunities it creates,” he stated.
