Former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez was taken to the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) on Saturday, September 12, for an independent medical assessment ordered by the Sandiganbayan Third Division.
Romualdez arrived at UP-PGH at around 8:35 a.m. after being transferred from Cardinal Santos Medical Center, where he had been admitted since September 7.
The court-directed evaluation aims to verify the medical assessments issued by his private doctors and determine whether he still needs to remain hospitalized.
His physicians previously reported that Romualdez was suffering from several medical conditions, including Unstable Angina, Cerebrovascular Ischemic Disease, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, and Dyslipidemia.
Security personnel were deployed around the hospital as Romualdez arrived. He was not seen leaving the ambulance, which was driven to an area close to the entrance, allowing him to enter the facility without going through the hospital’s public areas.
Romualdez is currently facing a plunder case before the Sandiganbayan over alleged anomalies involving flood control projects in the Philippines.
