The Senate Impeachment Court, presided over by Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, granted an additional 10 banking days to BDO Unibank and Security Bank on Monday, August 3, to submit the remaining financial records of Vice President Sara Duterte.
The new deadline for both financial institutions to turn over the remaining documents has been set for August 13.
Both banks had requested more time to comply with the court order, citing the massive volume of paperwork that still requires processing.
This extension comes shortly after July 30, when BDO Unibank and Security Bank—alongside PSBank, Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company (Metrobank), LandBank of the Philippines (Landbank), and Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI)—submitted initial financial records pertaining to Duterte, her husband Mans Carpio, and 20 other associated entities.
During the adjournment of Day 11 of the impeachment proceedings, Escudero explained the specific reasons behind the requests:
“BDO requested additional time to retrieve, compile, produce and submit item no. 3 in the subpoena, namely all account transactions, ledgers, journals, etc. and transaction logs. Security Bank manifested that due to the volume, it was unable to complete the printing of documents pertaining to two of the 20 entities, namely GenCorp Industries and Kalye Foods 88.”
To ensure fair access for all parties involved in the trial to review, examine, and photocopy the evidence, Escudero instructed both banks to provide certified paper copies alongside digital files stored on flash drives.
