Tropical Depression Caloy is expected to lose strength and transition into a remnant low within the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau announced on Monday.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the weather disturbance is moving away and is unlikely to have any direct impact on the country’s landmass. As of 5:00 a.m., the center of the tropical depression was spotted 530 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
”Caloy is also unlikely to directly affect the country throughout the forecast period,” PAGASA stated in its early morning bulletin.
The system currently packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts reaching up to 55 kph. Despite its distance, the bureau noted that moderate sea conditions are expected across several northern and eastern seaboards.
”PAGASA advised mariners of motor bancas to take precautionary measures and to avoid navigation under these conditions.”
No tropical cyclone wind signals have been raised, and the bureau expects the system to continue drifting far from the archipelago before dissipating.
