Several traditional opposition forces have officially established a new coalition named the “One United Democratic Opposition” as they launch early strategies for the upcoming 2028 national and local elections.
In a joint social media announcement on Wednesday, leaders from the Liberal Party, Akbayan Party-list, Katipunan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP), and Magdalo revealed that they held a critical caucus on Tuesday.
The assembly aimed to streamline their independent grassroots efforts and fortify their alliance around a shared democratic agenda.
The coalition members emphasized that their collaborative movement is strictly focused on securing political victories that directly serve the general public.
“Magkakaiba man ang porma ng pagpapalakas at paghahanda, iisa lang ang layunin. Ang magtagumpay para sa mamamayan! One united democratic opposition!” the groups said in a statement.
The high-level caucus saw the attendance of key party figureheads, including Liberal Party President and former Quezon 4th District Representative Erin Tañada, Akbayan Party-list President Rafaela David, KNP President and Cavite 6th District Board Member Kerby Salazar, and Magdalo Party-list Chairperson, former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
The formation of the alliance follows previous public statements from Trillanes and Akbayan leadership voicing early support for a potential 2028 presidential run by Senator Risa Hontiveros.
According to the allied organizations, the meeting serves as a foundational step to consolidate the fractured opposition bloc and build a unified front dedicated to pushing forward alternative democratic governance.
