Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Thursday debunked assertions made by Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte regarding alleged new arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court (ICC), calling the claims completely baseless.
Trillanes urged the public to disregard the lawmaker’s statements through a post on social media.
“Wag kayo magpapaniwala dyan kay Pulong,” Trillanes said.
The former senator clarified that the Hague-based tribunal has not officially released any new warrants of arrest in connection with its ongoing probe into the casualties of the previous administration’s bloody war on drugs.
“Wala pang ICC warrant na lumabas para kanino man,” Trillanes added.
His remarks were a direct response to a statement released by Paolo Duterte on Wednesday. The Davao representative claimed a “highly reliable source” informed him that the ICC had already issued warrants against Senator Christopher “Bong” Go and two former police officials.
The lawmaker also accused the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of using the international court as a political weapon to target opponents.
Trillanes, however, countered that the Duterte family has no insider access to the international tribunal’s confidential proceedings.
“Kung may lalabas man later on, siguradong ‘di nya malalaman ‘yan gaya nung ‘di nalaman ng tatay n’ya na may warrant na s’ya,” Trillanes said, referring to former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Trillanes previously broke the news regarding an ICC arrest order against Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa on May 11, a development that was later validated by the court.
The ICC continues to investigate thousands of operational deaths linked to former President Duterte’s anti-drug campaign, alongside alleged extrajudicial killings executed by the Davao Death Squad during his time as mayor of Davao City.
