U.N. PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR MINDANAO EARTHQUAKE RECOVERY EFFORTS

​The United Nations (U.N.) in the Philippines expressed solidarity on Monday with the communities impacted by the powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao. The international body announced that it is currently evaluating the disaster’s impact and stands ready to assist in relief and recovery operations.

​In an official statement, the U.N. extended its condolences to families who lost loved ones and to communities facing widespread destruction.

The organization noted that it is collaborating closely with government agencies and humanitarian partners to determine the extent of the damage and pinpoint areas in urgent need of aid.

​”The United Nations in the Philippines extends its deepest sympathies to the people of Mindanao and other affected areas following the devastating earthquake on 8 June. We mourn the loss of lives and the suffering endured by families and communities due to widespread damage to homes and infrastructure, and we stand in solidarity with all those affected during this difficult time.”

​The U.N. also recognized the rapid emergency response executed by both national and local authorities, emphasizing that coordinated efforts are vital to addressing the needs of the displaced populations.

​”The United Nations commends national and local authorities for their swift response. Together with the government and partners, we are assessing the earthquake’s impact and remain ready to support response and recovery efforts.”

​Additionally, the organization honored the emergency responders and volunteers who have been working on the ground to deliver critical services and assist victims in the wake of the disaster.

​”We commend the courage and dedication of first responders, medical personnel, and volunteers who are working tirelessly to save lives and provide relief.”

​Looking beyond immediate relief, the U.N. reaffirmed its commitment to supporting long-term rehabilitation and enhancing disaster preparedness and resilience throughout the country.

The organization stressed the necessity of building communities that are better equipped to endure future natural hazards and climate-related risks.
