Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has expressed his support for the ongoing investigations into the controversial flood control scandal, voicing hope that more individuals involved in the alleged corruption will face justice.
In a social media post following the arrest of government contractor Curlee Discaya, Sotto viewed the developments as a positive step toward exposing the true extent of deep-seated corruption that had previously been hidden from the public.
“Sana mas marami pa ang makulong.”
While acknowledging that the situation can be disheartening for many Filipinos, the mayor stated that he chooses to see the recent arrests as a sign of progress in holding individuals accountable.
“Minsan nakakadismaya na ang mga nangyayari sa ating bansa; iniisip ko na lang na ‘at least’ kahit papaano, may progreso. Just 1 year ago, most of us didn’t even know the level of corruption going on.”
Sotto pointed to the apprehension of Discaya, alongside previous legal actions against other figures, as part of a wider crackdown on irregularities within government flood control projects. He further suggested that certain prominent personalities linked to the controversy may have been the primary beneficiaries of the alleged scheme.
“Bukod kay [Martin] Romualdez at Zaldy [Co], maaaring ang mga Discaya na ang may pinakamalaking nakubra sa Flood Control Scandal.”
According to Sotto, the scandal underscores deeper structural flaws within the government, noting that systemic weaknesses allow corruption to thrive.
“This is just one example of how evil minds can exploit our broken system.”
The mayor warned that these abuses will likely persist unless citizens remain vigilant and actively reject the normalization of corrupt practices.
“Tomorrow, the same things will happen again, unless we continue to fight and de-normalize corruption.”
Sotto concluded by urging the public to stay informed and active in civic affairs, emphasizing that collective vigilance, critical thinking, and sustained engagement are vital to improving governance and preventing future exploitation.
