Vice President Sara Duterte issued a sharp warning from The Hague on Wednesday, cautioning that the administration’s push for Charter change is a precursor to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extending his stay in power.
Speaking to the media, Duterte argued that the government should focus on economic recovery rather than political maneuvers.
She accused the administration of leveraging state resources to dismantle the opposition as political friction between the country’s top two leaders continues to intensify.
The Vice President linked the recent legal pressures on her family and allies to a broader strategy aimed at constitutional revision.
Deterte emphasized that these political shifts could lead to lasting consequences for the nation’s democracy, echoing the sentiments of her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who has been a vocal critic of the current administration’s direction.
The Vice President’s remarks highlight a widening rift within the “Uniteam” alliance, as the debate over the 1987 Constitution moves to the forefront of the national discourse.
