Fresh from a career-defining performance in Rome, Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala is shifting her clay-court campaign to France for the Internationaux de Strasbourg, scheduled for May 17 to 23.
The 20-year-old is currently navigating the qualifying rounds of the WTA 500 event.
As one of the premier warm-up tournaments established in 1987, Strasbourg serves as the final proving ground before the season’s second Grand Slam, the French Open, which begins on May 24.
Eala enters the tournament with significant momentum following a breakthrough run at the Italian Open. In Rome, she secured high-profile victories against world-class opponents Wang Xinyu and Magdalena Fręch before eventually falling to world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in the Round of 32.
The Strasbourg field remains formidable, featuring Rybakina as the defending champion alongside a deep main draw that includes:
- Top Seeds & Veterans: Maria Sakkari, Emma Navarro, Madison Keys, and Elina Svitolina.
- Rising Stars: Leylah Fernandez, Clara Tauson, and Iva Jovic.
- Rome Rematches: Potential encounters with Wang Xinyu and Fręch, both of whom are entered in the draw.
Beyond her singles aspirations, Eala’s French Open preparations are also taking shape on the doubles front.
Official entry lists for Roland Garros reveal that Eala will partner with fellow rising star Victoria Mboko, forming a dynamic young duo for the Paris major.
