IDOL GROUP MNL48 TO DISBAND BY END OF MAY

The promotional activities of Filipina idol group MNL48 will officially come to a close at the end of May, its management, P.O.S. Inc., announced on Wednesday.

In a statement released on the group’s official Facebook page, the management explained that the choice to disband followed “extensive discussions with all relevant parties,” citing long-term viability concerns.

“P.O.S. Inc. has made the difficult decision to conclude MNL48’s activities as of the end of May 2026,” the company stated.

The management further clarified that sustaining the ensemble’s operations had become untenable under current circumstances.

“After carefully considering the sustainability of the management structure, the future operating environment and the various conditions necessary to continue supporting the group in a stable manner, we have come to the conclusion that it would be difficult to continue MNL48’s activities going forward,” it added.

As a final tribute to their loyal fanbase, MNL48 premiered a 2026 version of the music video for their viral hit “Pag-Ibig Fortune Cookie” late Wednesday evening.

“This work contains our gratitude toward all the fans who have supported us, as well as the heartfelt feelings of the members themselves,” P.O.S. said.

The management extended its deepest appreciation to the group’s members and supporters, while expressing regrets “for the sudden nature of this announcement and for arriving at this difficult decision.”

MNL48 is the official Philippine sister franchise of the renowned Japanese idol group AKB48. The local counterpart gained prominence for performing Tagalog adaptations of AKB48’s signature discography.

Its pioneering generation was formed through a dedicated talent search on ABS-CBN’s variety program It’s Showtime.

Mirroring its Japanese sister acts, MNL48 utilized a rotating membership format where senior members “graduate” from the group to make way for new generations of performers.
