President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. traveled to Talisay City, Cebu, on Monday to check on the ongoing cleanup and restoration of the Mananga River, a key project under the administration’s “Oplan Kontra Baha” flood mitigation initiative.
During his inspection in Barangay San Isidro, the President checked the progress of newly built drainage systems and flood control walls, which were fast-tracked following recent severe floods in the province.

Marcos explained that structural adjustments were made to improve water flow and boost drainage capacity, ensuring that heavy rainwater drains out smoothly rather than pooling into stagnant floods.
The President also highlighted the ongoing relocation of families living in dangerous “no build zones” along the riverbanks, an effort being managed alongside local government units.

To provide a permanent solution to the region’s flooding problems, Marcos revealed plans for a major infrastructure project upstream.
“Mayroon na tayong plano para maglagay ng dam sa taas… It’s a 70-meter dam,” he said.
Funding for the proposed 70-meter dam has already been slotted into the 2027 National Expenditure Program.
Marcos promised locals that the national government will keep backing long-term infrastructure and river rehabilitation to protect communities and public properties from future weather disasters.
