POPULAR OPM BAND CUP OF JOE ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY HIATUS AFTER DECEMBER CONCERTS

Baguio-born band Cup of Joe has revealed plans to take a temporary break following their upcoming “Cup of Joe: Symphony” concerts at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on December 3 and 4.

The group shared the news during the “Sandali Sessions: Ikaapat na Yugto” event in Quezon City, where members also turned heads by dressing up as the British boy band One Direction.

Addressing their supporters, the band wrote:

“SEE YOU SOON, JOEWAHS!”

The members clarified that the hiatus is intended to give them time to focus on personal matters, with the upcoming December shows serving as their final live performances before the break.

Reflecting on the group’s journey, vocalist Gian Bernardino noted “a good 2025–2026 run.”

During the downtime, Bernardino is expected to explore individual pursuits, particularly acting, following his role in the film Pee Mak. However, the band has not officially confirmed whether acting projects influenced the decision to pause group activities.

The hiatus announcement follows recent online discussions surrounding the band’s views on modern Filipino masculinity, which they discussed in an interview with Esquire Philippines. While their comments on emotional expression sparked mixed public reactions and online criticism, celebrities defended the group.

Despite internet speculation linking the break to the controversy, the band has not cited the backlash as a factor in their hiatus.
