PROMINENT REPUBLICAN SEN. LINDSEY GRAHAM DIES AT 71

Longtime South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a central figure in American foreign policy and a staunch defender of President Donald Trump, has died at the age of 71 following a sudden medical emergency.

The news was shared via a statement on Graham’s official X account, which confirmed that the senator passed away on Saturday evening, July 11.

“On the evening of Saturday, July 11, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham passed away from a brief and sudden illness,” the statement read.

The announcement also conveyed a request from his relatives:

“Senator Graham’s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period.”

Following the news, President Donald Trump posted a tribute on Truth Social, praising the veteran lawmaker’s relentless work ethic and patriotism:

“Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, is dead! He was always working, and was a true American Patriot. Lindsey will be greatly missed!!!”

Graham was widely recognized as one of the most influential GOP voices on defense and international relations. He championed assertive military policies, including strong stances against Iran, while simultaneously pushing for sustained U.S. military aid to support Ukraine in its defense against Russia.

Though he spent his final years as one of Trump’s closest congressional allies, their political history was highly complex. During the 2016 Republican presidential primaries, Graham was a fierce opponent of Trump, openly cautioning the party against his nomination.

Their alliance also wavered momentarily in the wake of the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, when Graham publicly distanced himself from Trump’s actions. However, he later voted to acquit Trump during his second impeachment trial, and the two subsequently mended their relationship, with Graham actively supporting Trump’s return to the presidency.

Preliminary medical examinations shared by the senator’s office indicate that Graham died from an aortic dissection linked to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. A definitive cause of death will be confirmed once standard lab results are finalized.
