The Philippines has officially selected “Sobra-Sobra” as its representative for the debut edition of the Eurovision Song Contest Asia after the track won the national Selection Night on Sunday.
Crafted by songwriters Nica del Rosario and Mat Olavides and brought to life by vocalist Carmelle Collado, the winning track outperformed rival entries to secure the country’s ticket to the international competition.
Collado shared that the track’s core message bolstered her stage presence, while her faith helped ease her nerves during preparation.
“It’s the song talaga. It is empowering,” Collado noted, reflecting on how the performance built her confidence. “Tuwing nag-rehearse din ako kinakabahan ako pero dahil din sa prayers talaga… ang dami ko prayer warriors.”
Co-writer Del Rosario expressed appreciation for the public backing and shared the team’s enthusiasm for the upcoming Asian stage.
“Super grateful kami sa lahat ng sumuporta sa amin, and we are very excited to represent the country,” Del Rosario said, describing the team as “overwhelmed” by the positive response.
Olavides echoed the sentiment, praising Collado’s vocal execution and looking ahead to the main event.
“Sobra-sobrang proud kami kay Carmelle! And on to the next stage, magiging mas proud pa kami,” Olavides added.
Runner-up honors went to “Broken Beyond Repair,” written by Angelo Gonzales and performed by Saga, while Jungee Marcelo and Jeremy G.’s “Mapadama,” rendered by JM dela Cerna and Marielle Montellano, finished in third place.
The first-ever Eurovision Song Contest Asia will take place on November 14 in Bangkok, Thailand.
