TRUMP’S NAME REMOVED FROM KENNEDY CENTER AFTER LEGAL BATTLE

Workers dismantled U.S. President Donald Trump’s name from the facade of the prestigious Kennedy Center on Saturday, marking a major setback for the leader who has consistently broken political tradition to place his branding across public spaces.

The return of the performing arts venue’s original name followed a protracted legal dispute. A crowd of anti-Trump demonstrators maintained a vigil at the site until late-night thunderstorms forced construction crews to temporarily halt their work on Friday.

The definitive move was confirmed on Saturday morning by the center’s Executive Director, Matt Floca, in an official legal filing.

Since beginning his second term in the White House in January 2025, the former reality television star has aggressively pushed to imprint his identity onto the American political landscape.

After appointing himself chairman of the arts institution, Trump stacked its governing board with loyalists. The board subsequently voted in December to alter the venue’s official title to “The Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.”

Following that decision, the Republican president’s name was swiftly installed on the building’s facade in large lettering positioned directly above Kennedy’s.

The controversial rebranding triggered immediate backlash, leading to widespread show cancellations and plummeting ticket sales for scheduled events.

The arts venue is not the only site to see changes under the current administration. Elsewhere in the nation’s capital, the now-defunct U.S. Institute of Peace was renamed in Trump’s honor, and massive banners featuring his likeness have been hung outside the Department of Justice and the Department of Agriculture.

The sign removal comes right before Sunday, when Trump is scheduled to celebrate his 80th birthday by hosting a $60 million cage fight at the White House.

The event is intended to launch national celebrations for the 250th anniversary of American independence—an occasion his administration plans to further mark with the release of a commemorative $250 Trump currency bill.
