Japanese publisher Kodansha has officially unveiled Cells at Work!: Dental (Hataraku Saibō Dental), a new spinoff series expanding Akane Shimizu’s acclaimed educational manga franchise. The upcoming manga will officially debut on October 26, 2026, featured in the December issue of Monthly Shōnen Sirius.
Cells at Work!: Dental shifts the franchise’s signature cellular conflict to the micro-ecosystem of the human mouth. The story follows anthropomorphized cellular defenders as they navigate the unique challenges of oral biology, waging action-packed battles against tooth decay, plaque accumulation, and harmful bacterial strains to protect teeth, gums, and surrounding oral tissue.
The series is written by Koma Warita, who previously penned the pharmaceutical-focused spinoff Cells at Work!: Medicine, with artwork illustrated by Kawede Sakaki. Original series creator Akane Shimizu is credited for the underlying concept and worldbuilding.
Since the debut of the original Cells at Work! manga in 2015, the property has developed into a major cross-media franchise encompassing multiple television anime adaptations, theatrical films, and a vast lineup of specialized manga spinoffs. Previous titles have tackled diverse physiological settings, ranging from adult lifestyle conditions in Cells at Work! Code Black and infant development in Cells at Work!: Baby! to feline biology in Cells at Work! Cat.
By putting the spotlight on dentistry, Cells at Work!: Dental maintains the franchise’s established blend of detailed scientific concepts, comedic characterization, and high-stakes microscopic action, bringing an educational lens to everyday oral hygiene and dental care.
