LET ME FIX YOU ANIME FACES PRODUCTION UNCERTAINTY FOLLOWING STUDIO CONTROVERSY

The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Let Me Fix You now faces an uncertain future after controversy erupted around the leadership of its original animation studio, Buta Productions.

Originally scheduled to premiere in late May 2026 on YouTube, the project has reportedly entered production limbo following allegations involving studio co-founder Federico Antonio Russo. An online user identified as “Maryco” publicly accused Russo of alleged grooming over several years, sharing screenshots and documents that quickly circulated online and sparked backlash across anime communities.

Studio Fallout and Staff Departures

In response to the controversy, the anime’s official account released a statement expressing sympathy toward the alleged victim while acknowledging that much of the production staff had reportedly been unaware of the situation.

The statement further noted that the future of the adaptation had become “uncertain” due to the seriousness of the allegations and the resulting disruption to production operations.

Members connected to the production committee reportedly began discussions on whether the project could continue independently from Buta Productions and Russo. Meanwhile, multiple animators and staff members publicly announced their departure from the studio.

Several former staff later regrouped under a new collective known as Ponbleu, stating that they intended to fulfill remaining commitments while distancing themselves from the controversy.

Former staff members also clarified online that future statements issued by Buta Productions no longer reflected their views or involvement. Parties associated with Buta Productions, however, reportedly described the allegations as “partial, misleading and malicious,” while signaling possible legal action.

Anime’s Future Remains Unclear

Despite the turmoil, parts of the creative team and publishing side have expressed hope that the anime adaptation may still continue in another form.

Manga creator Sakura Kurihara thanked staff members who remained committed to the project and expressed gratitude that the adaptation had not been immediately canceled altogether. However, no revised release window or updated production details have been announced as of writing.

Before the controversy, Let Me Fix You had already generated notable buzz among yuri manga fans due to its emotional story centered on seamstress Tsumugi and her mysterious bond with Chise.

Broader Industry Discussions

The controversy has also reignited wider conversations within the anime industry regarding workplace culture, accountability, and transparency, particularly among smaller and internationally operated studios involved in Japanese media production.

Industry observers note that the situation reflects increasing scrutiny toward production environments and leadership conduct as anime continues to expand globally.

For now, the future of Let Me Fix You remains unresolved as creators and remaining staff evaluate whether the anime can proceed independently from the embattled studio.
