Global streaming leader Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have officially secured global distribution rights excluding Asia, but explicitly including India for The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure, marking the first feature-length anime film in the globally acclaimed franchise.
Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures will handle the international theatrical and digital rollout for the upcoming cinematic project. The film is scheduled to make its official theatrical debut in Japan on December 11, 2026.
Following its domestic premiere, international theatrical and streaming dates covering North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and India will be announced by the distribution partners in the coming months.
Unlike previous television arcs adapted directly from the published light novels, The Late Lady’s Treasure features an all-new mystery crafted specifically for the screen by original series creator Natsu Hyuuga.
The production brings back top-tier creative talent, with direction helmed by Norihiro Naganuma (The Ancient Magus’ Bride) and animation production handled by TOHO Animation STUDIO.
The film’s plot follows a high-stakes imperial directive when Jinshi is ordered by the Emperor to fulfill a deceased concubine’s final wish by returning her remains to her homeland. The mission immediately takes a bizarre turn when the concubine’s body appears astonishingly lifelike even five years after her passing, prompting a deeper investigation.
To uncover the truth, Maomao and Jinshi travel to a bustling water city, where they must navigate rare medicinal herbs, complex local political intrigue, and ruthless pirates who are actively hunting for a legendary hidden treasure.
The feature film arrives on the heels of the massive international success of The Apothecary Diaries television anime. Representing the franchise’s cinematic debut, The Late Lady’s Treasure expands Maomao and Jinshi’s investigative adventures to the big screen, complementing ongoing light novel publications, manga adaptations, and multimedia projects.
