‘WALKING HOME WITH YOU’ TV ANIME ADAPTATION CONFIRMS APRIL 2027 BROADCAST PREMIERE

The official website and social media channels for the upcoming television anime adaptation of Mai Matsuda’s acclaimed coming-of-age romantic comedy manga Walking Home with You (Houkago Kitaku Biyori) have officially confirmed an April 2027 broadcast premiere on Japan’s NTV network.

Alongside the release window confirmation, production teams unveiled a brand-new teaser visual showcasing the series’ two lead characters. The promotional art features the official tagline: “The requirement for joining the club is walking home with me.”

Series creator Mai Matsuda celebrated the announcement by sharing a commemorative illustration on social media. While the anime adaptation was originally announced in March 2025, producers confirmed that further details regarding the animation studio, core staff members, and voice cast will be revealed in future updates.

The narrative centers on Shun, a high school freshman and former star of his middle school soccer team whose athletic career was cut short by a debilitating injury. Adrift and lacking passion or purpose in his daily routine, his life takes an unexpected turn when he is recruited by his eccentric upperclassman, Naoki.

Naoki ropes Shun into joining her unofficial, solo-member “Hyper-Epic Heading Home Club”—a whimsical organization dedicated to turning ordinary after-school walks into extraordinary adventures filled with elaborate detours, secret discoveries, and hidden local treasures. As the two spend their afternoons exploring the city streets, the club gradually breathes color and warmth back into Shun’s drab everyday life

Written and illustrated by Mai Matsuda, Walking Home with You began serialization in Futabasha’s Manga Action magazine in August 2023 and has been compiled into seven collected tankōbon volumes in Japan. The manga has achieved significant critical recognition, earning nominations in the print category of the Next Manga Awards. For international fans, the series is licensed for English digital release by publisher Omoi, making the source material accessible worldwide ahead of the television series’ scheduled debut in April 2027.
