ABS-CBN Corporation reported a 21% decline in consolidated revenue to ₱3.33 billion for the first quarter of 2026, primarily dragged down by lower advertising spend and a sharp drop in its Cable TV and Broadband segments.
The media conglomerate’s flagship Content Production and Distribution business generated ₱2.76 billion, marking a 13% decrease compared to the same period last year. Company officials attributed the weaker performance to the absence of the election-related advertising that boosted Q1 2025 results, alongside a broader industry-wide decline in ad expenditures. Global economic developments also dampened domestic consumer sentiment, while a temporary lack of major theatrical releases and events further impacted the quarter’s bottom line.
By comparison, the network’s first-quarter revenues in 2025 were heavily driven by major commercial successes, including the P-pop group BINI’s sold-out concert at the Philippine Arena and the box-office hit “My Love Will Make You Disappear.”
Despite the revenue dip, ABS-CBN managed to rein in its spending. Group-wide consolidated operating expenses improved by 12%, or ₱568 million, bringing the total down to ₱4.06 billion. Within the content business, operating expenses fell 5% to ₱160 million, driven by a ₱136 million reduction in general, administrative, and employee costs. The Group posted a consolidated net loss of ₱813 million for the quarter.
Management remains optimistic about a strong financial turnaround for the remainder of the year, banking on highly anticipated flagship projects set to roll out in the coming months.
”Revenues for the balance of year are expected to improve significantly,” the company stated, pointing to a packed entertainment pipeline.
Primetime king Coco Martin is scheduled to make his television return in June. Meanwhile, Star Cinema is set to release its first major film of the year, “Tayo Sa Wakas,” this May.
The network is also looking to capitalize on the massive momentum of BINI. Following the group’s highly publicized performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April, BINI is slated to kick off a highly anticipated world tour this June, which is expected to provide a substantial boost to the company’s non-traditional revenue streams.
