RPTV HITS HISTORIC RATINGS HIGHS DRIVEN BY PBA FINALS AND HIT SHOWS

RPTV, the free-to-air television channel operated through a partnership with the Radio Philippines Network (RPN), has registered a significant spike in viewership, marking one of the network’s strongest ratings performances in decades.

According to data from June 7, RPTV secured a 1.43 percent overall audience share for the day. This viewership surge was heavily propelled by Game 3 of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Finals, which garnered a robust 4.4 percent television rating.

The impressive numbers allowed the network to surpass several major free-to-air competitors during the period, including A2Z, GTV, ABS-CBN on ALLTV2, Net 25, and its sister station, TV5.

In addition to the PBA Finals, RPTV’s growth was boosted by its daily lineup of news and entertainment programs. Popular simulcasts driving the ratings include the lunchtime variety show “Eat… Bulaga!,” alongside “Frontline Pilipinas,” “Frontline Express,” “Una Sa Lahat,” and “Wanted sa Radyo.”

Introduced in 2024, RPTV acts as the primary free-to-air broadcaster for PBA games and select TV5 content. The channel is managed through a joint venture between RPN, Nine Media Corporation, and MediaQuest Holdings, the parent company of TV5.

Once a dominant force in Philippine broadcasting, RPN suffered decades of declining viewership and diminished ad revenue after its assets were sequestered during the administration of former President Corazon Aquino. Prior to RPTV’s debut, the network’s frequency was utilized by CNN Philippines, an English-language news channel that broadcasted for nine years before shutting down operations.

The recent ratings surge indicates a strong revival of viewer interest in the historic channel, anchored by marquee live sports and established blocktimer programs.
