ABS-CBN SECURES MULTIBILLION-PESO LOAN EXTENSIONS FROM BPI AND UNIONBANK AMID RESTRUCTURING EFFORTS

ABS-CBN Corporation has gained essential financial breathing room after two major lending partners agreed to push back the maturity dates on its multibillion-peso credit facilities.

According to reporting by InsiderPH, the extension enables the media and entertainment organization to stabilize its cash flows while finalizing a broader, long-term debt refinancing plan.

The revised terms adjust the deadline for ABS-CBN’s ₱5-billion loan with the Bank of the Philippine Islands to August 31, 2026, while its ₱4.75-billion credit facility with UnionBank of the Philippines has been moved to September 30, 2026.

These adjustments grant a three-month reprieve beyond the timelines disclosed by the network earlier this year.

This financial leeway comes during a challenging operating period. Financial disclosures indicate that ABS-CBN posted a net loss of ₱1.83 billion for the first six months of 2026—a notable expansion from its ₱852 million net loss in the same period last year. Consolidated revenue dipped 17 percent to ₱6.88 billion, largely influenced by reduced advertising and cable business revenues.

Despite income pressures, the company bolstered its liquidity position, closing June with ₱1.31 billion in cash compared to ₱1.03 billion at the beginning of the year. This liquidity growth was achieved through cost-containment measures, improved collection efficiency, and advance client payments.

To reinforce its balance sheet without taking on additional interest burdens, ABS-CBN is organizing a ₱6-billion equity issuance. Capital is expected to be provided by the Lopez family along with new investor I&C Holdings Corporation.

Meanwhile, core content production has demonstrated resilience. Although first-half content revenues slipped 9 percent to ₱5.76 billion, diversification efforts through global co-productions and international syndication helped buffer the drop.

Moving into the second half of 2026, the executive team expects further revenue generation supported by the ongoing BINI world tour, upcoming theatrical releases, and expanded international distribution agreements.

Management confirmed that loan payments remain up to date as comprehensive negotiations with financial partners continue.
