EASTERLIES BRING RAIN TO VISAYAS AND MINDANAO AS PAGASA MONITORS NEW LPA

Unsettled weather conditions persist across portions of the Visayas and Mindanao as the easterlies continue to bring rainfall to several regions, the state weather bureau announced on Wednesday.

In its 4 a.m. public forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated that Eastern Visayas, the Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental will experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, can expect similar weather due to localized thunderstorms.

The weather bureau warned residents in affected areas to remain vigilant against potential hazards.

“Severe thunderstorms could result in flash floods or landslides,” PAGASA cautioned.

Meanwhile, coastal waters across the archipelago are forecast to be slight to moderate, paired with light to moderate winds.

In addition to current rain systems, state meteorologists are tracking a low pressure area (LPA) located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

As of 2 a.m., the weather disturbance was spotted 3,070 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao, carrying a moderate chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours.

PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez noted that the system’s progression could significantly alter local weather patterns in the coming days.

The LPA “would enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat), bringing rains in most parts of the country,” Dominguez stated.
