US AND IRAN TO START HISTORIC PEACE TALKS IN SWITZERLAND DESPITE RENEWED REGIONAL VIOLENCE

The United States and Iran are scheduled to begin high-stakes negotiations in Switzerland this Friday, seeking a permanent resolution to their ongoing conflict. The diplomatic breakthrough has already prompted a drop in global oil prices following reports that the strategic Strait of Hormuz has reopened.

The process will open with a formal signing ceremony at the Burgenstock resort overlooking Lake Lucerne. This will initiate a 60-day period of intensive diplomacy focused on the future of Iran’s nuclear program and establishing a framework to ease international economic sanctions.

However, optimism for a swift resolution to the crisis—which began following the February 28 U.S.-Israeli strikes on Tehran—was tested by fresh military actions in southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s state news agency reported that four people were killed in strikes targeting vehicles in the towns of Mayfadoun and Shukeen, near Nabatieh.

In the wake of the fatalities, Iran’s central military command, Khatam al-Anbiya, issued a direct warning to Israel.

Israel should “await a harsh response” to the attacks.

The Israeli military defended the strikes, asserting that its forces engaged a target after they “identified a suspicious vehicle” close to their ongoing ground operations. Furthermore, Israeli military officials stated that their forces intercepted a barrage of rockets and subsequently launched an air strike against a mobile launcher.

Despite the renewed friction and escalating rhetoric, the Swiss foreign ministry confirmed that the diplomatic timeline remains on track and the signing ceremony will proceed as planned this Friday.
