PASAY CITY, Philippines — The Senate formally recognized P-pop phenomenon SB19 after the group made history as the first Filipino act to take the stage at Chicago’s Lollapalooza music festival.
Lawmakers adopted Senate Resolution 545 on September 28 to commend the quintet for their global milestones and significant contributions to advancing the Philippine creative sector. SB19 members Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin personally attended the plenary session to receive the commendation.
Senator Bam Aquino, who authored and sponsored the measure, pointed to the group’s international success as proof of what local talent can achieve worldwide.
The group performed their track “Lawless” at Grant Park in Chicago on July 30 during Lollapalooza’s 2026 lineup, before heading to Japan to perform at the Summer Sonic festival. Beyond live festival appearances, SB19 has secured major positions on international music rankings.
Their track “Bazinga” dominated the top spot on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs chart for seven straight weeks in 2022, while “DAM” made history as the first P-pop song to reach number one on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.
Aquino noted that the quintet’s accomplishments highlight broader possibilities for the domestic entertainment landscape.
The lawmaker is currently collaborating with SB19 and their agency, 1Z Entertainment, to craft legislation aimed at bolstering economic support for creative workers and accelerating the growth of the nation’s creative economy.
Following their festival appearances and Senate recognition, SB19 has hinted at releasing new music in October.
